The Blackberry Bramble – our cocktail of the month

Autumn is upon us!

We love a good change of season here at Festival in a Box – and summer to autumn is no exception.  Fireworks, bonfires, soft blanket-like scarves and long rambling walks ending with roaring fires and sumptuous blackberries.

These tangy sweet jewels instantly take me back to the perfect autumnal days of my youth; pulling on our wellies and coats, running to the countryside lanes and forraging through the brambles for the amethyst treasure.

The Blackberry Bramble was originally created in the 1980’s as a variation on the Singapore Sling by Dick Bradsell in Fred’s Club, Soho, London. A delicious cocktail that’s not too sweet and goes down very nicely. If only it came in popsicle form for the warmer months…hmmmm.

¾ ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice

6 large blackberries

½ ounce crème de cassis

½ ounce simple syrup (heat equal amounts sugar and water until sugar is melted; cool before using)

1½ ounces Gin

Blackberries for garnish

  • Combine the lemon juice and blackberries in a rocks glass and muddle until the berries are broken up. Fill the glass with ice.
  • Combine Crème de Cassis, simple syrup and gin in a cocktail shaker and stir to combine.
  • Add to the berry/lemon mixture, stir and garnish with additional blackberries.

The perfect accompaniment for an autumnal picnic in the woods?
